According to a report by Hawaii Public Radio, repairing Honolulu Rail's miss-sized tracks could take up to two years. The tracks installed don't match up in size to the wheels installed on the transportation cars, creating problems with the beleaguered transit system.
The report states that Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) CEO Lori Kahikina detailed two options — replacing the tracks, or replacing the train wheels, both of which are no easy task.
Honolulu Rail has been under constant scrutiny from critics since its inception, with questions about ridership, feasibility, aesthetics, and overall length of the track.
