Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell expressed concern over the weekend that the city may need to revert to Tier 1 of its re-opening strategy due to an increase in COVID-19 cases. This comes after 204 new cases were reported on Sunday, the highest single-day increase since September 5th.
The Mayor acknowledged the damaging economic effects of reverting to Tier 1, stating "Opening and shutting our island is hugely damaging."
A major source of reporeted infections has been OCCC's rise in cases, accounting for 55 of Saturday's numbers.
Keeping our islands delicate medical system within working limits has been one of the major goals of the tiered re-opening strategy, with Mayor Caldwell mentioning there's no current strain on our system.
