City Looking for Alternative for Lantern Lightning Festival

For the second year, Honolulu's Lantern Lighting Festival at Ala Moana Beach Park will have to be re-imagined due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Last year, the in-person event was replaced by a television broadcast.

"Due to concerns for the health and safety of community during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Shinnyo Lantern Floating Hawai‘i 2021 will not be held as a gathering on the beach on May 31, 2021.", according to the organizers website.
